The ERCB's Directive 071 requires that all petroleum companies be properly equipped and trained for emergencies such as oil spills. This one-day introductory level classroom course has been designed to meet the ERCB's Directive 071 minimum recommended level of spill response training for anyone who may have to respond to an oil spill, as well as for members of WCSS who may have missed an annual Oil Spill Cooperative training exercise. The course provides spill responders with basic practical information that will help them to respond safely and efficiently to a hydrocarbon spill. It consists of the following chapters, each with its own quiz:
Spill preparedness (before a spill occurs)
Field safety precautions (during the spill)
Initial spill response activities (during the spill)
Spill response organization (ICS) (during the spill)
Containment and recovery techniques (during the spill, including in the winter)
Instructors share their real-life experiences and provide many practical examples in addition to answering questions.
